Facilitating physically distanced active learning for student engagement, agency and community

September 28, 4:30-6:00 P.M. Mountain Daylight Time (MDT)

Featured Speakers: Dr. Joy Adams and Amanda McAndrew

Sponsored by the Teacher Education / Action Research Special Interest Group
(Co-Chairs Michelle Raese and Joseph Mecha)

Description:
In preparation for the fall semester, consultants from CU Boulder’s ASSETT Team (Arts & Sciences Support of Education Through Technology) will share essential information, tips, and technology tools to help as you shift your courses to hybrid and online formats. Join Joy Adams and Amanda McAndrew as they review Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles, strategies for active learning, and pedagogically sound technology integrations for encouraging engagement, promoting student agency, and building a class community.

Learning outcomes:
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify CLD pedagogical techniques and technology tools to support active learning remotely
  2. Discuss CLD strategies for building community and encouraging interactions online
  3. Explain how Universal Design for Learning can support a more inclusive classroom environment and provide flexibility for CLD students and instructors of CLD students
  4. Apply design thinking skills to envision remote alternatives for in-person course activities to aid CLD students

Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education Hours:

CoTESOL’s webinars are aligned to the CLDE standards and support the attainment of the 45 hours of CLDE professional development required for Colorado Department of Education teacher license renewal.  Participants will receive a certificate upon completing the webinar and a copy of the CDE CLDE Teacher Matrix prefilled with the training alignment.
